Unitarian Universalist Society Cleanup 9/13/08

Hi Folks,

Wow! What a haul! (Saturday's) band of unabashed trash-collectors really scored big-time in cleaning up the UU mile of the Parkway today. In the photo, from left, Linda Tanforan, Bill Becker, Pat Skeels, Kate Mullinger, and Jeff Voeller hauled out 15 bags of trash, a shopping cart, old chair, swim fin, and (drum-roll please...) the incredibly heavy, rusty safe that finally made Jeff Voeller's day when, after participating in its discovery months ago, he dragged it up a steep, sandy bank and hand-trucked it to the collection area. Celebration of our accomplishments and fun conversation followed after at Panera.

Regrettably three additional good-hearted and willing folks missed our departure but left a note on my car. Thanks for trying! Please come back next time!

With appreciation for a fun, productive morning,

Dave Dawson

Acorns Needed!!

Hello Stewards!!
Since you are the ones out on the Parkway, Dianna thought that you would be the best people to help us with a big project. By the end of October the Foundation has to collect 2,000 acorns for the coming planting season. These acorns must be from the Parkway and must be brown. They cannot be green or cracked.

I am asking that anytime you are out on cleanups or just walking, please keep your eye out for acorns that we may be able to use for planting next season. These acorns can then be brought to the Parkway Foundation office at 5700 Arden Way in Carmichael.

If you have any other questions please give me a call at (916) 486-2773.

Christina

UUSS Second Saturday Cleanup

I hope everyones week has been going well. A group mile stewards went out last week on a workgroup and sent me a pictures. Here is a picture of 4 of the 6 who went out from the Unitarian Universalist Society. They are the stewards of mile 6N and wanted to share that they were able to pick up 12 bags of trash on their monthly second Saturday Cleanup. The stewards who participated were (from left-to-right in photo) Kate Mullinger, Jerry Hostler, Rich Howard, Linda Tanforan, and (not in photo) Ardie Andrews and David Dawson.
If any of you would like to add some pictures of your mile stewards please e-mail them, as well as some information about your cleanup day to me at cneifer@arpf.org.

Welcome to our new Blog!

I know this has been done in the past...unsuccessfully, but here is the new blog for the American River Parkway Foundation. My main goal of this blog is to keep all the Adopt Stewards connected. You can also add any comments or questions you may have. I am new to this post as Steward Manager and you have all been around longer than me so there are probably questions others have that I am not familiar with. I am hoping that you can all fill me in and help me to give you what you need as Stewards.

This blog will also be an easy way to let me know when you are planning to have work days and to let other stewards know the odd debris you may find on your miles. So let's get started. I can't wait to see what this blog can turn into. I am definitely counting on your participation, even if it just means taking a couple minutes to read the weekly blogs. But for you obsessive bloggers out there (like me), have fun and comment as much as you like.

In order to add information to the blog, you can either create a blogger.com username and blog or you can also add comments as an anonymous user. If you do choose to do this, please be sure to add your name and where your steward mile is located.

Thanks everyone and Happy Blogging!!!
